FAQs – Repairs & Shipping

How much does it cost to repair my motor?

We are often asked this question but cannot answer it fully until we know what is wrong or what requires replacement?

As a very rough guide for most ebike motors, the lowest price is usually £60 to £80.00 and worst-case scenario would normally be £250.00 to £350.00. (It is not common, but if internal parts require changing, this cost may be exceeded. Again, you will be informed of this before any work is carried out).

What if you can’t fix my motor, how much does that cost?

We do not charge for looking. On the very rare occasion, when we can’t repair a motor, or it is beyond economical repair, we will rebuild the motor and just charge the £15.00 to ship it back to you.

What is your current turnaround time?

This page is regularly updated if this time changes. We are currently operating on a 10 to 12 working day turnaround from the time your motor arrives with us.

What is involved with a full overhaul?

Your motor will first be tested. Then all internal drive train parts are removed for ultrasonic or dry cleaning and inspection.

All drive train bearings will be removed and replaced with original or better. New grease will then be applied to all relevant surfaces and extra specialist greases maybe used to help protect from wear or water ingress. New seals, O-rings and circlips fitted. The motor is then reassembled in our clean, custom built workshop. (In the event that a part has failed or worn, you will be contacted before we go ahead and fit a new part).

What is involved in a service/repair?

Your motor is stripped and inspected, then we contact you with a report and price before going ahead with any work. Usually, just the parts or bearings that have failed will be replaced. Depending on the condition internally, we may advise a full overhaul is the best way to proceed.

How do I pay?

Provided you have given your go-ahead for us to complete your motor, we will send an invoice by email with a secure payment portal should you wish to pay by credit or debit card, and our bank details should a bank transfer be easier for you.

Can I send my motor in with the crankshafts attached?

If you can still remove the motor, but you are unable to remove the crankarms, you’re welcome to leave them on the motor and we will remove these when they arrive. To remove pedals, remember left pedals loosen clockwise, right pedals loosen counter clockwise.

Can I send my motor in with the front sprocket / chainring still fitted?

Yes, this is not a problem. We will remove any parts like this and re-fit to the correct torque specifications once we have finished your repair.

Can my motor be damaged if I send it to you?

To put your mind at ease, motors tend to travel very well and we have yet to see any damage. We often see a motor packed better than a nuclear fuel container, only to be put back in the bike and thrown down the side of a mountain! They are tough!

Which courier should I use to send my motor with?

The courier you pick to send your motor to us is entirely your decision. Most seem to do a very reasonable job these days. You may want to save yourself some time and money by booking through companies such as https://www.parcelmonkey.com or https://www.parcel2go.com

How should I pack my motor?

We would recommend using a sturdy cardboard box and wrapping the motor is small bubble wrap of rag etc. Do not use air filled plastic pockets, these pop and this will leave your motor unprotected.

Do I need to contact you when I send my motor in?

No, as long as you have filled in the booking form on our service repair page, we will know your motor is on its way.

Do I need to contact you once my motor arrives?

Only if you don’t hear from us within 24 hours of your motor being delivered. Once your motor arrives with us it is in a queue awaiting processing. This is usually done within a day and then we contact you to let you know we have your motor safe and sound. If your motor arrives late in the day, we may not be able to contact you until the following working day.

Should I insure my motor when I ship it?

Although we can assure you that shipping your motor is very safe these days. The decision to insure your motor or not is entirely yours.

How do you send my motor back?

We may use several different couriers but will usually ship by next day service. Please note that next day delivery is not absolutely guaranteed, we are in the hands of the courier and your geographic location. Once your motor has been collected from us, you will get a notification and tracking information, either by email or text.
